Jimothy Eats Free Is Out Now — My 7-Day Game

I finished a game!

I’ve made plenty of game prototypes over the years, but I had never actually finished and released one. I would build a mechanic, test an idea, and eventually move on to something else.

This time, I gave myself seven days and one firm rule: I had to release a complete game by the end of the challenge.

The result is Jimothy Eats Free, a small arcade game about everyone’s favorite Seattle raccoon, Jimothy. He has discovered an apparently endless supply of falling food—but unfortunately, it comes mixed with bottles, cans, and other trash.

Jimothy seemed like the perfect mascot for this challenge because he doesn’t overthink his situation. He just Jimmys it and keeps living his best life. That was the attitude I needed to stop endlessly working on prototypes and finally release something.

The goal was to keep the scope under control and take a game all the way from an idea to a finished release. It required a lot of frantic work—and a few compromises—but version 1.0 is finished and playable.

How to play

Move Jimothy using A and D or the left and right arrow keys.

Catch the falling food to increase your score, but avoid the trash. Getting hit costs you a life. The goal is to survive and earn the highest score you can before the night is over.

The game is free and plays directly in your browser.

If you encounter a bug, leave a comment on the itch.io page and tell me what happened. I’d also like to know your highest score.

I recorded the entire development process, so a video about making the game will be coming soon.
